A few months ago I went to Vancouver’s EPIC FESTIVAL. A family friendly event dedicated to showcasing eco -friendly products and services. It was held at the gorgeous Van Dusen Gardens (in my opinion the BEST place for an eco fest!) and I throughly enjoyed the day as I met some fantastic eco-minded local folks who introduced me to some fabulous products and services.
So here are a few of my favourites plus a GIVEAWAY!
1. COCOZE (Coconut Fiber Sandals):
Canadian Pierre Thomson has created a one of kind sandal that is truly environmentally friendly and is super comfortable. Made from coconut fibre from Thailand, Pierre has found a unique way to use what nature discards and recycles the coconut palm fibres into sandal that surpasses those plastic sandals. PLus it exfoliates your feet! What other sandal does that?
Pierre gave me a pair at Epic to try and I’ve worn them ever since.. everywhere! Incredibly durable, I wore them to the PNE recently and I must say they were the best option when one is walking on pavement all day. Check out their website and order your own pair online at www.cocoze.com. Pierre has generously donated a pair to give away! Check out the contest below!
2. Sayula Products (Bath and Kitchen Products):
Cecilia Valencia has created unique line of bath and kitchen products made out of AGAVE. Agave is a type of a succulent plant characterised by its rosettes of narrow spiny leaves and tall flower spikes. This plant is native to the southern US and tropical America. Sayula not only makes fantastic products like their SOAP POUCH (holds your shower soap – you can also put all of those small soap bits onto this pouch instead of throwing them away), but they also provide products that address the need to develop socially, environmentally and economically sustainable opportunities in Mexico. Our products are biodegradable and use plant species that naturally grow in the region, don’t require much water or use of harmful practices, like the use of pesticides and fertilizers. They also work directly with rural communities to help them improve their quality of life by providing stable income and fair prices that directly benefit people in these communities. What’s not to LOVE about these products? Check them out and order at www.sayulaproducts.com
3. The Grass is Greener (lawn and landscaping services):
Soloman Rosenberg has created a unique lawn and landscaping service. His equipment is all SOLAR POWERED. That’s right. So, it’s quiet, clean and organic (his exact words on his business card). I love this concept. We all have to cut our lawns, but now we can hire Soloman to do it and not worry about polluting the air with gas powered noisy mowers. It’s great to have options. He does many home maintenance services, to check out his website at www.thegrassisgreeneryardworks.com
Yes that’s right. Imagine it… wine on tap. Restaurants and wineries are embracing this new concept and you can too! You can rent the equipment for parties! By using Fresh Tap, you eliminate tons of waste like corks, bottles and cardboard. What’s not to love about this? Fresh Tap’s message is all about eliminating waste on the planet while offering a great way to enjoy your favourite wine. Check out their site www.freshtap.com
